Recently a controversy has developed concerning the “Blood Moons.” By way of explanation, Blood Moon refers to the orange-reddish color of the Moon during a full lunar eclipse. At such times it is illuminated only by light passing around the perimeter of the Earth. The fraction of the Sun’s rays which survives the long path through the atmosphere are in the red spectrum. Mohammed “Split the Moon” NOT
There is a controversy of sorts within Islam concerning a sentence or two in their holy books which assert that during a visit by Mohammed to Mecca, the Moon was split apart such that one piece was hidden behind a mountain, and another appeared in front of it.
First note that any Muslim recounting this story accurately will say that Allah split the Moon, not Mohammed.
